Crown Lengthening & Gum Recontouring

Crown Lengthening

A certain amount of healthy tooth structure is necessary to appropriately support dental crowns.  When there is NOT enough healthy tooth structure remaining after removing all the diseased tooth structure, a crown lengthening procedure is necessary. This procedure exposes healthy tooth structure by removing soft tissue (gum) and hard tissue (bone) around the tooth.

Esthetic Gum Recontouring

Cases exist where there is excessive gum tissue partly covering the teeth, giving the appearance of a “gummy smile”. The extra gums may be more difficult to keep clean and of course compromise esthetics.  Esthetic gum recontouring is a procedure in which the excessive gum tissue, and underlying bone if necessary, is meticulously sculpted to provide ideal esthetics.
