Sedation is a safe and effective way to make an oral surgical procedure more comfortable and relaxing. Sedation is ideal for relieving anxiety, fear, and discomfort, as well as reducing pain. The patient never actually sleeps during the visit, but because there is little to no memory of the appointment it is felt as if they were asleep. Depending on the “level” of sedation required, the appropriate TYPE of sedation will be recommended at the initial consultation. These include nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas), oral sedation (medication given in a pill form), or IV sedation (medication given through your vein).
